1-question survey đź“‹

I’m in planning for Out Fitness’ 4th year (WOW), and so far, during 3 years, this community always provides the best ideas and support (thank you)!

Below is a quick survey with ideas I’ve heard or had, and I’d love your help with prioritizing. Out Fitness is still a passion project with only one part-time worker (me), so we can accomplish perhaps one or two new things in a year.

You can select more than one answer. Even more importantly, if you have an idea that isn’t listed, please comment below!

What new change would you make to Out Fitness, even if it meant contributing more money?
  • App to guide my workouts
  • Out Fitness merchandise
  • Social events with members in-person
  • Social connections with members online
  • Cleaner studio
  • More exercise space in studio
  • Different equipment in studio
  • Group classes (comment what type)
  • 1-on-1 personal training
  • Different wellness services (comment what type)
  • More hours / scheduling options
  • More tours for new members
  • More snacks / beverages
  • Shared office where I can do work before/after workouts
  • Donations made to LGBTQ+ charities
  • Partnerships with the LGBT Center of Cleveland
  • Keep things the same, all is good!
  • Other (comment below)

Group classes ideas: yoga, strength training, self defense
Wellness services ideas: partnership with LGBT-friendly physical therapist for cash based or pro bono visits, this would be helpful in guiding personalized workouts
I voted for more exercise space in the studio specifically for more wall space for shoulder exercises and exercises that require your feet to be on the wall (with clean socks lol) like supine 90/90. There’s some wall space available in the cardio room but not much available in the main strength room if you need to use the TV at the same time. Thank you for hosting the survey and being open to feedback!

For everyone who voted/commented in this thread, 2 exciting updates!

  • We are having a coffee meetup this Sunday at 12pm, and I specifically want to talk and dream about these ideas.
  • We’re about to take on a third room at the studio! It’s smaller, but if we move some equipment into it, then we could have space for group classes again in the blue room. I’m also interested in options to book each room separately for those who wouldn’t mind sharing the studio. I’ll need your thoughts to make the most of this!

Hey @Andrea_Hinojosa @nelk0112 and @Rob_Grant_III! I have an opportunity to purchase something new for our studio soon, and you each responded that different equipment would be helpful! Can you comment or DM me and tell me what you have in mind?

Down for us all to vote && curious what @nelk0112 and @Rob_Grant_III think. I need to check what I wrote but the discussion came when talking to the personal trainers we have right now.

Perhaps a full-body stretch machine would be nice or mini resistance loops.

Hi! I think full length mirrors would be great and would make checking your form a little easier. Bosu balls for balance drills; a treadmill for another cardio option (I know this was a noise issue in the past, so I’m not sure how feasible this would be but it would be great to brainstorm some ideas like soundproofing, a basement space, etc); plyo boxes for jumping (can also see this being a sound issue); weighted balls that are useful in shoulder drills, balance, hinging etc. I think the space is unique in that it is still residential. We have to be mindful of neighbors, but that might be a great opportunity to be creative with the space and equipment.

Thank you Nadia this is helpful! Noise is still going to be an issue for any treadmill or jumping, although we do have 1 plyo box for step-ups. And a basement space is actually a “maybe someday” possibility in our building

I will get us a Bosu ball! And for weighted balls, do you want something heavier / more compact than our medicine balls?

That’s exciting to know! The weighted balls are usually sand filled to different weights. The only advantage really is they’re easier to hold in some drills instead of a dumbbell or kettlebell so that probably wasn’t the most cost effective suggestion, sorry. Some new tube resistance bands would be great!

I forgot to mention maybe a slant board and/or wedges as a suggestion. I usually bring mine if I know I’ll be using if for the day but a in house option would be very convenient.

Would it be helpful if I kept an eye out for second hand equipment on Facebook marketplace and other sites? I’ve found great deals that way for most of my home gear. I could post things I find here for input from others or text it directly to you.

These are great ideas! Can you send me the type of wedge you use? And I recently replaced our tube bands, take a look and tell me if we’re missing what you need!

I’ve used FB marketplace to get lots of our equipment in the past, it’s definitely useful. I just don’t have time lately to coordinate that. So, if you see good items on FB marketplace AND you would have time to pick them up, then message me here or at 216-250-2098. If it’s a good match, then I’d reimburse you of course!

That’s perfect! I’ll text you soon
